Back in February this year, the world’s leading destination for short-form mobile videos, TikTok revealed that it is working on a new system that would restrict teens from seeing certain types of adult content.
Then, the firm pointed out that the new features and technologies aimed at making the video-based social network a safer and more secure environment, particularly for younger users.
However, as we just discovered today in an official announcement by the social network services the first version of the new features named “Content Levels”, will be available in the next few weeks.
The upcoming content rating system aims to provide a way to categorize app content in the same way that movies, TV shows, and video games do. Even though adult content is prohibited, TikTok stated that some content on its app may contain “mature or complex themes that may reflect personal experiences or real-world events aimed at an older audience.” Its content rating system will categorize it and assign a maturity score to it.
Accordingly, the firm stated that the early version of its Content Levels system will be released in the coming weeks, to prevent users between the ages of 13 and 17 from being exposed to content with clearly mature themes.
Meanwhile, videos with mature themes, such as fictional scenes that may be too scary or tense for younger users, will be assigned a maturity score to prevent TikTok users under the age of 18 from viewing them. Over time, the system will be expanded to provide filtering options for the entire community, not just teens.
Similarly, the social media service is reportedly working on a new tool that will allow users to exclude videos that contain specific words or hashtags from appearing in their feeds. These features give teens more control over their TikTok experience while also making the app more secure. Follow TechGenyz for more updates.
