In recent times, Apple has been reportedly planning to launch at least one iPhone 15 model in 2023 with a periscope camera design, allowing for increased optical zoom. Recently, MacRumors report that analyst Jeff Pu stated that the periscope lens on select iPhone 15 series models will have 10x zooming capabilities, far superior to the iPhone 13’s 3x zoom.

However, in his latest surveys and predictions the popular reliable Apple Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed today that the Apple iPhone 15’s adoption of a high-ASP periscope design will enter a two-year high-speed growth cycle. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, his prediction is based on Apple’s camera supply chain and market feedback on iPhone using periscope design.

While given his analysis Ming-Chi Kuo pointed out that Apple will use a periscope design in its iPhone starting from 2023 and the models that will adopt the periscope camera design are iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 Pro. Likewise, the main specifications of the periscope for iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 are similar, including 1/3″ 12MP, f/2.8, sensor-shift support, and 5-6x optical zoom.

Speaking on the cost of components Kuo stated that it still depends on the yield rate before mass production. According to him, based on the cost structure of the existing periscope, the YoY growth of component’s total output value for the iPhone 15 series rear camera, including CIS, VCM, lens, and CCM, will increase by 5-10%, 20-25%, 65-70%, and 20-25%, respectively, for the adoption of the periscope.

Moreover, he further noted that the lens specifications and business models have changed the most, while output value has increased the most. A high-ASP 1G2P lens, two high-ASP prisms, and a lens barrel comprise the entire periscope lens module. High-ASP materials are critical to increasing output value. For the first time, Apple’s lens supplier will provide more complex assembly services, so Largan and Genius are expanding their production capacity in Taichung and Xiamen to meet this demand.

Accordingly, emphasizing the benefits of the iPhone’s adoption of periscope design Kuo maintained that the total output value of the rear camera components of the iPhone 16 series, including CIS, VCM, lens, and CCM, will increase by 15-20%, 15-20%, 40-45%, and 15-20% YoY, respectively. Likewise, he added that the main beneficiaries of the iPhone’s adoption of periscope are LG Innotek, Cowell, Jahwa, Largan and Lante Optics. Follow TechGenyz for more updates.
