The PlayStation 5 now has a feature that lets users rate other gamers, called Accolades. This feature hasn’t been utilized much by users and it will be discontinued, according to a post on the Japanese PlayStation Support website.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has opted to eliminate the function once more since it was utilized considerably less frequently than anticipated. The information was made public through a statement on PlayStation Japan’s support website. Although the precise date of its disappearance is uncertain, it will happen sometime in Fall 2022.

The report claims, “You will no longer be able to send praise, and you will most likely lose all of the praise you have gathered.” Sony did not clarify why it looked that PS5 players were not utilizing praise. “However, not all PS5 titles with multiplayer capabilities support or offer it on a regular basis.”

What does the PS5 Accolades feature entail?

Players may come across gamers who support the community and uphold PlayStation’s rules and regulations. Anyone may grant someone an honor after an online match to assist in motivating the best players and recognizing good impacts. On their profile, users may see the recognition they have received. Each match allows players one accolade, but only to players who are not on their friend list.

The primary goal of implementing this function was to make PlayStation Network a more welcoming environment for players, though Sony also took measures to guard against misuse of the Accolades system.

Reasons behind removing the PS5 Accolades feature

PlayStation users might not be using Accolades for a number of reasons, but the main one is probably that they are unreliable. Although offering awards to online gamers who behave well or are helpful seems obvious, the implementation might’ve been far better.

For players’ online conduct, players may receive accolades like a helpful, welcoming, or good sport. Aside from a digital badge, this had no further benefits, and few players really used it. Additionally, gamers were unable to award Accolades to their buddies, which may have contributed to their early disinterest in Accolades. The majority of users may not even be aware of it.
