In a bid to broaden its capability in the eco-friendly material sector, the South Korean multinational technology company, LG Innotek, is pleased to announce today that it’s received a Green Technology Certification from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for its material technology.

LG Innotek Green Technology Certification

The government acknowledges environmentally friendly innovations that can help society become more sustainable through a sort of accreditation called the “Green Technology Certification.”

The accreditation was given to LG Innotek for its nano-polycrystalline thermoelectric material technology, which is a key component used in thermoelectric systems for commercial ships and other industrial power generation.

LG Innotek’s Eco-friendly Materials

However, it should be noted that technology can lower the energy required for power generation since thermoelectric power generation generates electricity utilizing waste heat. Approximately 892 tons of fuel can be saved annually per ship if a thermoelectric power production system using LG Innotek’s nano-polycrystalline thermoelectric material is put on it, according to the company.

In addition to reducing carbon dioxide by around 40 tons annually, a thermoelectric system made with LG Innotek’s material could also benefit steel mill processes. LG Innotek has aggressively used technology to make the world a greener place throughout the whole product development process at a time when eco-friendly technologies are becoming more and more crucial.

The business has been using a hazardous substance inspection system since 2006 to keep track of whether any of its products contain contaminants that are bad for the environment. To evaluate the environmental impact of its products, the corporation implemented life cycle assessment (LCA), a widely used environmental evaluation system, in 2022.

Company’s Reaction

Speaking on the success record, Jeong Cheol-dong, CEO and president of LG Innotek, said the value of environmentally friendly goods and technologies will increase across all industries as ESG factors become more significant.

In his words: “With ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) factors becoming increasingly important, the significance of eco-friendly products and technologies across all industries will grow,” said Jeong. “As a leading company in ESG, we will continue to expand the development of various eco-friendly technologies and products to innovate in customer experience.”
