The American video game giant, Epic Games, has added Blankos Block Party by Mythical Games to its marketplace as the first NFT-powered Web3 game. The most recent game was the first Web3 game to be released on the Epic Games store. The game from Mythical Games was already made accessible on its websites after entering open beta in December 2020.

The First NFT Game

A free-to-play multiplayer party game called Blankos Block Party is based on the distinctive collectibles digital vinyl toys known as Blankos. These non-fungible tokens are obtainable during the game and can be bought, improved, and exchanged.

Third Kind Games and Mythical Games collaborated on the game’s development. Although it wasn’t certain if it would be the first game of its kind to hit the market, the business announced plans to offer the free-to-play game to the Epic Games Store this year in June.

The first Web3 game for the system was meant to be Grit, a Western-themed shooter by Gala Games, but it hasn’t yet been made available. Users can communicate and play in a lively online environment with Blankos Block Party, which was inspired by designer/vinyl toy culture.

NFTs are used in the game to represent distinctive goods like avatar fashions and accessories that can be bought and sold through the marketplace.

Company’s Reaction

Compared to its main rival, Valve’s Steam marketplace, Epic Games Store has adopted a different strategy for Web3 gaming, boasting more than 194 million total players last year. Meanwhile, in the fall of the year, Valve said that publishers could not upload games to Steam that in any way involved NFTs or cryptocurrencies.

However, on the other hand, the founder and CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, responded by tweeting that while his firm didn’t plan to use NFTs or Web3 technologies, it would allow other artists to do so provided they adhered to legal regulations and market standards.
