A new report from Bloomberg has revealed that Sony has an extreme production goal for the PS VR2 headset of 2 million units by March 2023. As of yet, there have been no supply chain issues since mass manufacturing got underway in September. Following the launch of the headsets, production may be increased or decreased based on demand.

Sony anticipates increasing manufacturing to produce at least 2 million PlayStation VR2 headsets by March next year. This incredibly impressive figure from the gaming titan is revealed in a recent Bloomberg report.

PS VR2 headsets are anticipated to go on sale in early 2023

If we extrapolate from the Bloomberg article, PlayStation VR2 will likely launch in January or February of 2023. The fact that Sony reportedly intends to have two million headsets prepared for PS VR2’s launch time suggests the corporation is primarily focusing on being the market leader in terms of headsets.

Comparatively, the initial PS VR headset from Sony took almost a year to deliver two million devices, but that was back when virtual reality has not been as popular as it is today. Even though Sony anticipates selling these two million devices in more than six months, it is still a bold move given that these manufacturing estimates represent 1/3 of PlayStation VR’s total sales.

Final Thoughts

VR gaming is gradually growing in popularity among players as more people adopt it. It does not, however, come close to replacing the functionality of conventional consoles and PCs. VR remains increasingly prevalent, and VR is struggling to challenge its supremacy.

It will be fascinating to observe how the device really performs once it is released. Sony has already made it clear that the experience will be superior to the first generation and more engaging. The future of the video game industry may well lie in virtual reality. Several individuals think that it will eventually replace video gaming as a platform.
