According to recent leaks, the Call of Duty Advanced Warfare sequel, a future-set followup to the renowned first-person shooter series, is currently under development.

Sledgehammer Games is reportedly working on the Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare sequel

Ralph Valve, a renowned Call of Duty source, recently published an article at What If Gaming that claimed Sledgehammer Games has begun developing a COD Advanced Warfare sequel, and the game is scheduled to release in 2025. It also makes a case for a connection to Warzone 2.0, with certain advanced warfare-inspired aspects added to the map and game. However, this could be entirely speculative.

According to the source, Call of Duty Vanguard was developed by Sledgehammer Games with high expectations, and further sequels were planned to continue the storyline. Unfortunately, the game’s financial flop compelled the developer to come up with a fresh concept.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare explores a future battleground

Advanced Warfare, released in 2014, pioneered new territory for the series by transporting players to fighting areas in the future rather than to battlefields from the past or the present.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was a critically acclaimed and commercial achievement upon release, but it still ended up being a contentious installment in the series. Some fans said that Call of Duty should return to its origins since they did not like the sci-fi aspects.

However, despite today’s reports claiming the contrary, CharlieIntel has stated that they have heard that Sledgehammer Games isn’t presently working on the Advanced Warfare sequel.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has not yet been released, but speculation surrounding the franchise’s 2025 release has already been rampant. With Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer Games effectively transitioned the franchise into a new age, making gameplay considerably more intense thanks to exo-suits and approaching technology.

If these reports are accurate, which will only become clear with time, it will certainly be intriguing to watch what happens to the Call of Duty series in the next years.
