The Honda Prologue was initially hinted at in May this year, but the Japanese automaker has now revealed the final look and confirmed that it would go on sale in the US in under two years. The gateway vehicle” to Prologue will be a hybrid CR-V, which Honda will first release. The neo-rugged battery SUV will then come in with sleek edges.

The firm plans to introduce 30 new battery-electric cars (BEVs) globally by 2030. Honda plans to become a fully electric brand by 2040. After the Prologue, Honda will introduce an electric version of the Acura SUV later in 2024.

Honda Prologue Built on GM’s Battery Platform

The Ultrium platform, which was created through a collaboration between General Motors and LG Energy Solutions, will be used in Honda Prologue and Acura EVs’ batteries.

The Ultrium is a series of pouches that can be moved and changed out as technology advances rather than a single huge battery, as many early EVs had. It’s a “platform” that is universally applicable, allowing GM to scale production and provide users with apps and charging features that are compatible with all makes and models.

Specs

More information about Honda Prologue will be available in the upcoming months. We currently know that it will have 21.8-inch wheels and come in the special exterior color North Shore Pearl. Approximately 8 inches longer and 5 inches wider than the 2023 CR-V, it will include an 11-inch drive display panel that is digital. An 11.3-inch infotainment display will also be available.

Pricing

Honda has not officially announced the Prologue’s price and range, but Car and Driver believe it will cost around $45,000 and have a range of 250–320 miles. It will be 8 inches longer and 5 inches broader than the 2023 Honda CR-V; that much is certain.

Company’s Take

“We are not going to wait until 2024 to attract EV buyers, because we see a natural progression for a CR-V customer to Prologue with its slightly larger size, a larger interior and capable handling,” said American Honda’s vice president, Gary Robinson. “We will support that transition now by putting smart strategies in place with the CR-V hybrid, that will enable our customers to transition to an EV.”
