The legal arguments in support of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard are still being made in court. Documents from both parties have been made public by the UK regulatory body, giving us a good understanding of Microsoft’s future goals, and maybe hinting that Elder Scrolls 6 will be an Xbox-exclusive title.

Xbox hasn’t officially confirmed if The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released on PS5 since it acquired Bethesda. Although it is expected that it won’t, some PS5 owners still hold out hope that the upcoming and eagerly anticipated Bethesda game will make its way to Sony’s platform. This is due to unclear statements made by Xbox in the past and the fact that it still distributes some titles to PlayStation consoles.

Elder Scrolls 6 can be an Xbox exclusive title

While Xbox has yet to make a clear statement on this matter, certain recent official documents hint very close to doing so. Microsoft explains the fantasy RPG’s possible exclusion from PlayStation or Nintendo systems by referring to it as a “mid-sized” game in the document to CMA.

Xbox classifies its game selection into the following three groups- niche, unique audience, and market size. Microsoft considers Call of Duty and Minecraft to be huge market-size games and the firm will likely incur overall losses if it made any of these titles an Xbox exclusive due to the size of the user bases for games like Call of Duty and Minecraft.

Moreover, similar to larger games, smaller titles like Fallout 76 and Psychonauts 2 require a broad audience to succeed, hence their release on PlayStation is necessary for them to recoup their production expenses. As a result, the smaller titles will never be exclusive. However, Elder Scrolls 6 fits into the intermediate category, and Microsoft has the possibility of making it Xbox exclusive.

Microsoft’s statement in support of the Activision acquisition begins with a reference to The Elder Scrolls 6, which is still some years away. Furthermore, it also second mentions mid-sized titles in particular, which suggests that Microsoft may make Elder Scrolls 6 an Xbox exclusive title.

Given the constantly rising popularity of the series and there has been a long time since the previous mainstream franchise release, the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to be one of the biggest releases in gaming history.
