As part of its commitment to provide elevated computing and gaming performance in PCs and laptops, today, Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled a new high-performance PC SSD that raises everyday computing and gaming to a new level.

Samsung’s new high-performance PC SSD, named PM9C1a SSD, was built with a market-leading 5nm controller and seventh-generation V-NAND, enabling a new level of everyday PC efficiency while handling demanding computing and gaming tasks.

PM9C1a SSD: Taking Computing and Gaming to New Level

The PM9C1a SSD offers top speeds, making it perfect for general computer and gaming needs and more intensive use. Utilizing the PCIe 4.0 interface, Samsung’s PM9C1a boasts sequential read and write speeds of 6,000 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 5,600MB/s, respectively, better than its prior storage product (PM9B1).

Also supported are random read and write speeds of up to 900K and 1,000K input/output operations per second (IOPS), respectively.

Additionally, the PM9C1a provides up to 70% higher power efficiency per watt compared to its predecessor. This indicates that the new SSD can complete the same number of jobs while consuming much less energy. Furthermore, the SSD will use about 10% less power when a laptop PC enters standby mode.

Improving PC Security Measures with PM9C1a SSD

The PM9C1a has high security to meet the growing demand for more robust security measures. The Trusted Computing Group (TCG), a multinational organization that creates open standards for computing security, produced the Device Identifier Composition Engine (DICE) security standard, which the SSD supports.

DICE securely produce cryptographic keys in the SSD, giving device attestation to guard against firmware tampering and supply chain assaults, which are cyberattacks that target businesses via flaws in their supplier network.

Samsung’s PM9C1a SSDs have an M.2 form factor and come in storage capacities of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB (22mm x 30mm, 22mm x 42mm, 22mm x 80mm).

Commenting on the new high-performance PC SSD, Yong Ho Song, the Executive Vice President of Memory Solution Product & Development at Samsung Electronics, said the most important traits for PC users are performance, power efficiency, and security, and the new PM9C1a SSD will provide a strong mix of all three.

“Our new PM9C1a SSD will deliver a robust combination of superior performance, greater power efficiency and increased security, which are the qualities that matter most to PC users,” said Yong Ho Song.

“We are committed to creating storage that satisfies the diverse and changing market requirements as we continue to advance innovation in the PC SSD space.”
