The Callisto Protocol had unsatisfactory sales figures and failed to make back its claimed investment. It has been reported that the Callisto Protocol sales numbers fell short of targets.

It appears that despite all the buzz around this new project and the developer history, it hasn’t been able to make a significant enough impact. The Callisto Protocol’s extreme close-quarters fighting and graphic violence were mainly focused in the game’s marketing, with notably major roles played by the game’s character. However, it just served to inflate players’ expectations, as reviews show that it failed to live up to fans’ hopes for the game.

The Callisto Protocol was projected to sell at least 5 million copies

According to K-Odyssey reports, the game was created at a staggering cost of 200 billion won. The South Korean currency (won), equals around $162 million in USD. As per Krafton’s financial report, the firm paid the Callisto Protocol’s developers roughly 196 billion won, comprising 5.4 billion won in 2020, 77 billion won in 2021, and 113.6 billion won from January to September of last year.

The Callisto Protocol sales numbers have been underwhelming and its stated $ 162 million budget has not been recovered. The Callisto Protocol publisher Krafton has witnessed a significant drop in stock price as a result of the game’s underperformance relative to what the company had projected.

Publisher of the Callisto Protocol, Krafton reportedly anticipated to sell a minimum of five million copies worldwide, but considering how badly the game has done so far, the company doesn’t even expect to achieve two million within the year. The game, which was developed by the same director who oversaw Dead Space, introduced shooting features back into horror games. The visuals have been praised by everyone, despite the fact that fans’ opinions to the title have been varied.

This year, the game is expected to acquire months’ load of more content, which might ultimately contribute in the publisher’s financial recovery. Let’s see if it does, and if it doesn’t, fans may not see a new game from Striking Distance Studios anytime soon.
