Huawei Wins New Patent That Uses Lip Movement To Unlock Device

However, with the constant improvement of mobile technology companies through their research and development, a new method of unlocking devices has been discovered.

The Huawei’s Latest Patent

In its latest patent, Huawei has uncovered a new method of unlocking devices using lip movement. According to the Qichacha APP, the patent for the equipment unlocking method and device applied by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. was authorized. The inventors are Wang Jing and Bai Bo, as shown in the patent abstract.

The document shows that this patent’s application was submitted on December 26, 2019, and it was published on June 29, 2021. As far as we all know, Huawei excels in scientific research. It has a wide range of unique technologies, significant technical benefits, and a high number of published patents relative to other technologies.

Using Lip Movement To Unlock Device

The patent’s abstract reveals that this application offers a method and apparatus for unlocking devices that can employ biological characteristics of lip movement features for identity authentication, unlocking the device with flexibility, anti-forgetting, anti-plagiarism, and modifiability.

The procedure entails getting the user’s current lip movement image, getting the first lip movement feature based on that image, and deciding whether to unlock the device based on how closely the first and second lip movements match each other. The second lip movement feature is a pre-stored lip movement feature that is used to unlock the device.

This development implies that a new method of unlocking devices has been discovered. Although the Chinese tech giant has not disclosed where it will be applying the patented technology. However, if it can be applied to mobile phones in the future, it may bring some novel unlocking experiences to users.
