Hyundai has at last given a sneak peek of the much awaited Kona family and its makeover. From its expanded passenger space and cargo room to its chic, futuristic design inside and out, the all-new KONA is elevated in all the right ways.
Hyundai Kona Electric second-generation offers a choice of two battery packs – standard and long range. The Standard model features a 48.4 kilowatt-hour pack, enables a WLTP-estimated range of 342 kilometers. The Long Range features a 65.4 kWh battery that delivers a WLTP-estimated range of 490 kilometers.
More than a Trend
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, believes the Kona Electric will play a major role alongside the brand’s IONIQ models in reinforcing Hyundai’s EV leadership. “The new model builds on the great reputation of the first-generation Kona Electric and is designed and engineered to lead the competition with its many outstanding features. At Hyundai, we don’t see the EV revolution as just the latest trend. We believe it is a pivot point for not only the industry but also for society. Through the implementation of eco-friendly mobility solutions like our EVs, we hope to speed the transition to clean mobility and make progress for humanity.”
Both variants accommodate a front-mounted electric motor. The Standard model has an output of 114.6 kilowatts, while the Long Range has 160 kW – the maximum torque is 188 pound-feet. According to Hyundai, the bigger battery charges from 10-80 percent in about 41 minutes with the fast charger. However, it does not provide the maximum charging rate that the 2024 Kona Electric can take.

Moreover, Hyundai’s Kona Electric has 400V technology. It may not be as advanced as the loniq 5 and loniq 6, but drivers can go from a 10 percent to 80 percent charge in as little as 41 minutes with a fast charger. The new model has a one-pedal driving mode – a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function and a drag coefficient of 0.27. It has a distinctive “Pixelated Seamless Horizon Lamp” and “Pixel graphics”.
The Kona EV has grown as its 6.9 inches longer than the outgoing crossover, and rides on a 2.4 inch longer wheelbase. The all-new Kona with its rugged, dynamic design and upscaled dimensions retains its iconic character. It supports active lifestyles of all ages and generations and offers new technologies, and convenience features that provide a safe, connected and comfortable experience.
