Since Apple released the Studio Display last year, the tech giant has been rumored to be working on a 27-inch monitor for desktops. Last year, the TF International Securities tech analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the new 27-inch display will be announced soon. Unfortunately, we didn’t see it arrive.

However, in his latest survey today, the popular Apple analyst has given an updated prediction on the upcoming 27-inch Apple display. According to him, Apple has dropped plans for the display and it is expected for mass production in 2024 or the first quarter of 2025.

In his words: “1. It’s slated for mass production in 2024 or early 2025, boasting all the features one would expect from a high-end monitor.

2. Utilizing mini-LED technology, and the most notable design change is to switch the material of the mini-LED backplane from the PCB current Apple products to glass.

3. The benefits of adopting a glass backplane include a thinner panel, thickness, a narrower bezel, an extended product lifespan, etc.”

In the same vein, MacWorld reported that the alleged 27-inch Apple Display would use mini-LED backlighting, giving it superior contrast and high dynamic range, and ProMotion would have been supported, with variable refresh rates up to 120Hz.

According to the outlet, how the new display will be placed remains unclear. It might have been a replacement for the Studio Display, which already has features like variable refresh and HDR that make it suitable for the job of a premium monitor, or it might have been a brand-new, more costly model that falls somewhere between the Studio Display and the Pro Display XDR.

Previously, rumors revealed that Apple’s plans for a 27-inch display with ProMotion support had been delayed and it will not launch in the first quarter of 2023 as expected. However, given the latest updated rumors from the TF International Securities tech analyst, it seems the American tech giant wouldn’t launch the 27-inch display until 2024 or 2025.
