Finally, the Sony Xperia 5 V goes official as scheduled. Last week, in a teaser trailer on YouTube, the mobile brand confirmed that it will be launching its flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia 5 V, on September 1 in Japan. In the announcement video, Sony gave a few glimpses of the device and a couple of photo samples taken with it.

A tweet from the popular mobile tipster Abhishek Yadav, confirmed the official launch while sharing some specifications of the device and the official launch price. The smartphone goes on sale for €999, approximately $1084, and about ₹89,667 in India. The Xperia 5 V is coming exactly one year after the Xperia 5 IV made its debut.

Everything about the newbie Sony Xperia 5 V

Sony is sticking with the same 6.1-inch screen as last year’s model for the new Xperia 5 V, bringing an FHD+ OLED panel (21:9). This enables a more pocket-friendly design than typical flagship phones. However, to stand out from the previous models, it comes with an IP65/68, eSIM, NFC, and metal frame.

To compete with the top Android smartphones in the market, the Sony Xperia 5 V is powered by the famous Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and comes with 16GB of RAM, which would be a substantial improvement over the Xperia 5 IV’s 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Coming to the optical, the smartphone features a 52MP main (24mm), 48MP effective, 1/1.35-inch, OIS, and 12MP ultrawide (16mm), 1/2.5-inch rear cameras. The front camera supports 12 MP and a 1/2.9-inch screen for video and selfies. Moving forward, the smartphone boasts a pre-installed version of Android 13 and is likely to be upgraded to Android 14 in the future.

To enhance users’ duration, the smartphone comes with a 5,000mAh battery and supports 30W wired charging and 18W wireless charging. This feature can be said to be one of the most remarkable specs of the Sony Xperia 5 V, as it transforms the user’s experience. Other features the device supports are stereo speakers, aptX HD, aptX adaptive, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
