Motorola is now acquired by Lenovo and was owned by Google previously. Though the period of Google’s ownership was short, it was marked a boon for Motorola as this was the period when the latter released its Moto G, MotoX, MotoE, and Moto360. Now, the hot news is that Google is said to perform this magic on HTC, another dying giant.

HTC, the Taiwanese company, suffered a steady decline. It came across its worst financial report in the last 13 years, as stated by a financial report published last August. Compared to the previous year, the revenue has dropped nearly 51.5% and appears still declining.

Commercial Times, a Chinese media, says that “Google is in the final stage of negotiation” with respect to the HTC smartphone business. The search giant is considering either becoming a strategic partner or buying the smartphone unit entirely.

The outcome’s result is still in the box, but as it appears, Google needs its own hardware company if it plans to take on Apple. HTC had tied up with Google a couple of times where they launched the Google Nexus One, The Nexus 9, and the Pixel. It is said that the company is also making Pixel2.

Reports say that the reason behind Google’s Tie-up with Motorola was just to acquire Patents and keep them from competitors like Apple and Microsoft.

There are still questions to be answered if Google acquires HTC. A key question is whether we will still see HTC-branded phones in the market or if it will just be Pixel alone. Some people speculate that we may still get HTC-branded phones, but they will be targeted at the lower and possibly mid-range categories. They may likely be Android One or Android Go devices, while the premium line will bear the Pixel name.
