Last weekend, Xiaomi announced the release of a new smartphone on 11th July. The company released a teaser poster and video, revealing only a few specs. It was seemingly to be the Mi 6 Plus, but the launch reveals that it is the new Xiaomi Mi Note 2 variant. It is available only in black.

Despite nothing many specialties, Xiaomi is calling the new variant the Mi Note 2 special edition. The original Mi Note 2 already had 2 variants in 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM. The Mi Note 2 features 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM, with other specs remaining the same.

The smartphone packs a Snapdragon 821 processor with a 5.7-inch dual-curved AMOLED display. As for the cameras, the phone features a 22.5MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. The phone also has a fingerprint scanner sitting below the home button.

The battery of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 special edition is of 4070mAh and can be charged via USB Type C-port. Furthermore, the handset consists of dual-band Wi-Fi, dual SIM support, Quick Charge 3.0, and Bluetooth 4.2. Xiaomi also promises to provide LTE speeds of up to 6000 MBPS in terms of connectivity.

The special edition of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is priced at ¥2899 ($426). In terms of comparison, this price range is more than the Mi 6 devices with better processors. At the same time, the price range beats the devices with smaller displays and batteries.

There is also a discount available for now, as said by Xiaomi. It is a ¥300 discount, taking the price down to ¥2599 ($382). This makes the phone less expensive than the 4GB RAM variant of the Mi Note 2, which is priced at ¥2799 ($412). The 6GB variant is still at  ¥3299 (~$485), while the Global Edition is at ¥3499 ($515).
