Right now, Tesla is a bit busy dealing with multiple issues to fulfill the pending orders for its Model 3. Still, Elon Musk’s company is rumored to be pushing ahead with a new type of Semi Truck, an electric vehicle. At the TED 2017 conference in Vancouver, a teaser image of the truck was released.

This new vehicle was expected to come out several weeks earlier. The delay is caused mainly due to the Model 3 bottlenecks issue.

There was a Tesla shareholder meeting in September where Musk reportedly said that the Semi Truck would be hitting the roads in 2019. He was quoted, “We will probably reach scale production on the semi in about two years. Maybe 18 months, but probably about two years.”

The delay in the launch can very much affect his plans, though.

Tesla is expected to face tough competition as there are already a number of established Semi builders in the electric vehicle market. An all-electric truck named the E-Fuso Vision was unveiled last month by Daimler. Before that, Cummins released the Urban Hauler Tractoreven in early September.

Tesla’s Semi, though, has the advantage of having much more range than the Semi’s currently available. The electric trucks designed by Daimler and Cummins have a range of 350 km and 160 km, respectively. According to rumors, Tesla’s first Semi is going to have a range of 500 km.

Very little information is released by Tesla about the design of the truck. From the prototype, the experts believe it is going to look like a futuristic concept truck.
