Recently Apple launched its smartphones, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, which support wireless charging. Xiaomi, with a strategy to lead this competition, is said to launch its first-ever smartphone, which supports Qi-standard wireless charging.

Reports say that Xiaomi is one of the emerging Chinese giants in the smartphone market, which has joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Although the company has not released any official statement regarding this, it has been found listed on in the WPC member list. We thus can assume that the company may come up with its official announcement soon regarding its wireless charging smartphone.

The latest news reveals that the Mi 7 will be housing a 6-inch AMOLED display, and it will be driven by Snapdragon 845 chipset. The SoC is expected to be accompanied by 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Rumors are that the company will launch this smartphone in 2018.

In order to support wireless charging, Apple launched its recent smartphones with glass chassis. Therefore, we can thus consider that Mi 7 may also be launched with glass chassis. Qualcomm has claimed that it has WiPower technology which may allow metal-bodied smartphones to support wireless charging.

Finally, a question may arise in the user’s mind as to how Qi wireless charging system works? So here we have an answer for you:

  • Qi charging system allows users to place their wireless charging enabled device on a charging pad connected to a power outlet.
  • When the coils pad and the device come into contact with each other, a magnetic field is created.
  • The magnetic field produces electricity that charges the device.

Qi systems are now being made available in restaurants and airports. They allow the users to charge their smartphones by simply placing them on the pad.

So, all the Xiaomi lovers, get ready for a new surprise coming your way. We can now just be patient for the official statement to be released from the company, isn’t it?
