As confirmed by The Elec, Apple asked suppliers to stop production of its latest M2 chip series in January 2023 due to weak demand for MacBooks.

The tech giant claims that Taiwan’s TSMC did not output any M2 chip wafer workpieces to its outsourced semiconductor package facility in January and February this year.

As we know, the M2 chip series consists of the M2, M2 Pro and M2 Max chips for the MacBook Air, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and Mac mini.

The chip was first announced in June 2022 with the introduction of the M2, before expanding with the M2 Pro and M2 Max in January 2023.

However, the report claims that now some production has resumed since March, but it is only half the level of previous years.
