Google Under Antitrust Review in India

By Rahul Bhagat

Google is facing an antitrust compliance review in India following a complaint from Match Group.

Match Group, the parent company of Tinder and Hinge, joined Indian startups in requesting an investigation into Google's User Choice Billing system.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI), which previously barred Google from bundling apps with Android, will conduct the review.

Match alleges that Google's billing system imposes high service fees on app developers, not complying with the CCI's previous order.

The CCI has stated that an inquiry needs to be made and has requested information from Google within four weeks.

Google has not yet responded to the request for comment.

Match previously sued Google over Play Store billing policies, and Google accused Match of attempting to avoid payment for the value received from the Android ecosystem.
