The chatbots could help boost engagement on Facebook and Instagram, competing with TikTok.
The move also showcases Meta's AI capabilities in competition with OpenAI and Google's Bard.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously announced plans for AI personas, focused on generative AI.
Signs of a new "Chat with an AI" feature were spotted on Instagram in June.
More details on Meta's AI roadmap are expected to be revealed at its Connect developer event in September.
