Tesla has applied to expand Gigafactory Shanghai for vehicle production and pouch battery cell manufacturing.

Gigafactory Shanghai has become the world's largest and most productive electric vehicle factory in just two years.

Tesla aims to produce 1.75 million EV powertrains per year with the expansion.

The company also plans to produce its own pouch cells, possibly indicating a move into LFP battery cell production.

Currently, Tesla's filing is for a small pilot production line for pouch cells.

Giga Shanghai's success has led Tesla to utilize the same team for its other factories in Texas and Mexico.

Tesla aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 20 million vehicles by 2030.
