Apple hired Google’s AI chief John Giannandrea, who will supervise the former’s divisions of machine learning and AI strategy. He has become one of the 16 executives to report to Apple’s CEO, Timothy Cook.

It is evidently advantageous for Apple to compete with its rivals in the fast-evolving AI industry. It is as well seen as a victory for the tech giant among Silicon Valley companies in terms of the concerned industry.

Despite Apple’s firm stand in the market for iPhones, its digital assistant Siri is still lagging behind in performance compared with its counterparts from Amazon and Google. Giannandrea had been one of the leaders in integrating AI across Google’s products including the Google Assistant. This makes Apple gain an ideal influencer in the aim to proceed with AI.

Giannandrea, the 53-year-old Scottish had been with Google since 2010 during the time it acquired Metaweb. Since that time, AI research became ‘increasingly important with Google Brain, the brand’s first AI lab.

AI expertise brings engineers more demand from Silicon Valley, and the salaries often exceed eight figures! When Giannandrea stepped down from Google, his availability immediately attracted the market.
