On September 2, Lamborghini introduced its new range of luxurious cars named Sián. The company marks the car as “the sudden lightning that marks a real historical change” as Sián means lightning bolt in the Bolognese dialect.

The new car symbolizes a masterpiece of technology and innovation with an extraordinary hyper-car design. Just like the other few off belonging to this luxurious car brand, Sián is also produced in a small number of just 63 units.

A blog post indicates that this new range of cars amplifies the emotions of the most powerful naturally aspirated V 12 ever produced by Lamborghini using the boost of the first electric motor in the world powered by supercapacitors.

An Innovative car for future

Sián is the fastest car that Lamborghini has ever produced. It not only offers thrills right at first glance but also has a futuristic design that combines aesthetics with exceptional aerodynamic solutions.

A report recalls that Sián includes the ‘Gandini line’ first introduced on the Countach. The car’s low front is with the integrated carbon-fiber splitter and is dominated by the Y-shaped headlights, originally designed for the Terzo Millennio.

The rear with its extreme lines and proportions, features tail lights formed of three hexagons inspired by the Countach. The rear wing of Sián raises automatically with the increase in its performance. This is integrated with the profile and the two vertical spoilers bearing the inscription “63”.

The aggressive and totally innovative lines are given by the company itself after going through some exclusive materials research patent. The cooling fins of Sián activate automatically without the help of support motors because of the discharged temperature.

A blog post comments, “At high temperatures, in fact, these materials rotate and change their position, conveying the air towards the mechanical elements, avoiding the weight of any motorized systems. So the design is functional and futuristic, anticipating the aesthetic elements and solutions of the Lamborghinis of the future.”

An innovative hybrid system

Lamborghini engineers chose the mild-hybrid solution because it allows the Sián to mount an internal combustion engine and an electric motor to keep the weight down.  The power of 819 CV in the combined cycle makes Sián the fastest and most powerful Lamborghini of all time, with a weight-to-power ratio less than the 1.98 kg/CV of the Aventador SVJ, the holder of the lap record at Nürburgring. The iconic combustion  V12  reaches up to 785 CV at 8500 Rpm. Electric motors with supercapacitors

The Sián’s electric motor is designed to support the V 12 to increase its performance. The 48V motor delivering 34 CV is incorporated in the gearbox. As a result, it guarantees a boost in a pickup and during the gear shifting.  Previously, no other mild-hybrid vehicle has ever directly connected the electric motor and the wheels.

The energy storage technology with supercapacitors is extremely innovative, only Sián has introduced to the world. The new car’s battery is three times more powerful than a lithium-ion battery of the same size and provides incredible power in both energy charging and discharging. The exceptional weight-to-power ratio of the car has a minimal effect on the overall weight of the car but provides its boost at all engine speeds.

Performance of the combined cycle

Sián has two engines which work in close synergy starting from low-speed maneuvering and going up to the most exciting driving stages of the new few-off. In fact, the system gives an instant response in acceleration from standstill and reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 2.8 seconds. A report praises the excellent performance of the new Sián.

Traction force is improved by up to 10% in third gear, and the 30 to 60 km/h acceleration time is increased by 0.2 seconds compared to the Aventador SVJ. High-speed recovery reaches +20%, reducing the 70 to 120 km/h acceleration by 1.2 seconds to the record-setting car. Thanks to the electric assist, Sián has a constant torque without any drop during gear shifting.

The powerhouse

The new Sián is considered as a powerhouse because of its highly advanced regenerative braking system specially developed to recharge the electric motor. The featured supercapacitors can be charged and discharged with the same power in contrast to the normal Li-ion batteries.

Sián’s energy storage system is fully charged every time the car uses brakes.

The official report stated, “The stored energy is immediately available up to 130 km/h, improving responsiveness and making it more than 10% faster than a car without this system”.

Design personalization

The close collaboration of Lamborghini’s Centro Stile and Ad Personam allows the creative department to design each of the 63 cars.  Moreover, the vehicle is designed in a configuration with Verde Gea (green) and Oro Electrum (electric gold) covered with a precious multilayer paint that contains golden flakes and crystals.

The chosen design perfectly complements the interior design, giving the Sián a royal and bold look. The leather in the ‘Terra di Sant’Agata Bolognese’ color is created in collaboration with Poltrona Frau along with the other components which are 3D printed.

The Sián is ready to take over the market after the unveiling program which will take place at the IAA 2019 in Frankfurt. The new Lamborghini Sián is inspired by the lightning bolt that infuses innovation and creative designing. With its unique features and details, we are confident that this car of the future will surely take the breath away of the millennials.
