How to get a 90+ score in the Class 10 Maths exam?

Author at TechGenyz Contributor

Being one of the most scoring subjects, Mathematics happens to be a fun learning subject for many students. Once students begin to understand the concepts clearly, they are able to relate those concepts in real-life situations as well.

This is where the purpose of including Mathematics in the school level academic curriculum gets served. It is important to understand as well as to score well in this subject because a good score in Mathematics can shoot up the aggregate percentage in class 10 board exams by a great margin.

Identify the weightage of each section:

It is very important for students preparing for the class 10 maths board exams, to be familiar with the weightage of various sections of the syllabus. Once you get the updated syllabus for the 10th board exams, make a note of the sections with maximum weightage. You may either write down the individual weightage of chapters or sections in the index page of your book or you may note it down in a separate sheet of paper.

For example, the section of your Maths syllabus dealing with various concepts of Algebra carries the maximum weightage, whereas the section of coordinate geometry carries a low weightage.

Some of the important topics from the Maths syllabus are listed below in ascending order of weightage.

  • Real numbers
  • Coordinate Geometry
  • Mensuration
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Trigonometry
  • Geometry
  • Algebra

Even though you need to practice the entire syllabus of Mathematics thoroughly, strategize to dedicate more of your time to the sections with greater weightage. This way you will be able to secure more marks in the board exams.

Dedicate more time to your problem areas

All students appearing for the class 10 board exams are advised to cover the whole syllabus for Mathematics, in a planned way and at a fast pace. Covering the whole syllabus at a fast pace will help them identify the topics and sub-topics in which they may have doubts much earlier than the exam. Teachers suggest that instead of avoiding the problem areas, students need to dedicate more of their time to those areas in particular.

It may so happen that several questions are set from those topics in the class 10 board exams. So make a separate notebook for the topics you find difficult to understand and practice those sums from as many reference books as possible to strengthen your base.

Prioritize to do the new sections first

There are a few new concepts that are introduced in the class 10 Mathematics syllabus. It is important to cover these new concepts first so that you get plenty of time for practice. Many students struggle with the advanced concepts of trigonometry and consequently falter in the sums. The best way to deal with it is by going through the solved examples of the new chapters.

Most of the new concepts can be understood with the help of these examples. Also, it is advisable to write down the new theorems and the related proofs in a separate notebook so that you can refer to any of these when need be.

Practice graphs thoroughly

Most students tend to have a notion that plotting graphs is an easy job and they keep it for the last-minute revisions. Well, plotting of graphs may apparently be easy but there are a few things in graph-plotting that will only come with good practice. For example, the graph scales you choose differ from question to question.

Graph-plotting is one of the most scoring sections in the Mathematics syllabus of class 10 and yet a silly mistake can make you lose all the marks. Once you have a good grip on plotting graphs, selecting the correct scale for any graph will become easy.

Practice from reference books

The syllabus of Mathematics for class 10 CBSE board exams coincides with the contents of the NCERT maths book for class 10. Students are always advised to practice all the sums from the NCERT maths book first so as to have a clear understanding of all the concepts. They may refer to the Vedantu class 10 maths NCERT solutions available on the online study portals in case of doubts.

After completing the entire syllabus it is important to practice as many sums as possible from competent reference books such as R.D. Sharma. Practicing sums from various reference books will help them have a stronger foundation in Mathematics.

It is highly recommended that students should solve as many sample test papers as possible to test their own preparation. After they have covered the whole Mathematics syllabus, they should start taking mock tests and solve the last five years’ board question papers within the stipulated timeline to become familiar with the board question pattern. This way they can improve their performance and secure a good percentage of marks in the examination.
