Flipkart and the State Institute For Developments of Arts and Crafts SIDAC are collaborating this time to promote Odisha’s artisans, weavers, and craftsmen across India, headed by Flipkart Samarth.

Flipkart Samarth headed by team Flipkart was an initiative to encourage the underrated segment of the handicrafts business. Their aid has led to the employment of over 500,000 weavers and artisans across India, who, prior to this, were neglected by the high-tech consumers in this country.

Samarth’s close-knit association with reputed NGOs and other governmental bodies has helped them to identify these rural entrepreneurs and create avenues for them in the bigger market.

It not only carved out employment opportunities of these unprivileged entrepreneurs working under an unstable infrastructure but also tried to identify the subalterns such as the differently-abled and skilled women to come forth and implement their skills for the broader market economy. Samarth also tried to incorporate training to these people who are deprived of proper guidance due to their poor economic structure to empower them and make them a medium for our country to identify our very roots to this soil.

Orissa, which is one such domain that excels in the most beautiful handloom and textile industry, has been selected under this collaboration leading to three famous enterprises Boyanika, Utkalika, and Sambalpuri Bastralaya to attain proper recognition in the field of eCommerce.

Marked by the beginning of a new era for other Orissa-based rural entrepreneurs, Additional Secretary to Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, Govt. of Odisha, Sri Kailash Chandra Sahoo mentioned the benefit of this Memorandum of Understanding, indicating ‘valuable knowledge about branding, digital marketing, and financial management while showcasing the local heritage and hallmark products.’

We are delighted to join hands with the Govt. of Odisha to bring the state’s heritage on our platform while providing the state’s artisans and weavers a chance to fulfill their ambitions and expand their businesses pan-India. These are challenging times, and as a homegrown platform, we believe it is our responsibility to boost local businesses and transform them through ecosystem partnerships. This MoU will bring the benefits of Flipkart Samarth to the thousands of handloom artisans, weavers, and craftsmen in the state,- Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group.

Flipkart Samarth’s initiative has abided by their motto for the upliftment of these local artisans around the country and provide them the proper access to our national economy. This MoU is the next step towards their future vision and is one bold step towards the beginning of a new era for the eCommerce market economy.
