Google Messages will now automatically sort messages into categories. Google will launch this sorting feature and the auto-deleting one-time passwords (OTPs) soon in India. The messages will be categorized into four sections: Personal, Transactions, OTPs, and Offers. However, for the users, the “All” category is the default one; however, there is also a new carousel underneath the top search field.

Google officially announced, “We’ve heard from many users in India that they receive a lot of different types of messages, from friends and family and businesses sending promotions, receipts, order confirmations and more. With so many incoming texts vying for your attention, it can be difficult to separate the important ones from everything else.”

For any users who receive messages, Google will filter those messages into their respective suitable categories. The bank transactions and bills will be put into the transactions tab while the other hand, conversations with saved numbers will stay inside the personal tab. All of this will take place on the device only so that the conversations will stay inside the app, and the users will also be able to access the categorized messages even offline.

However, Google has not made this filter mandatory for everyone. This method will be purely optional and the users can choose to default to the unified list.

Messages will also get the option to automatically delete one-time passwords 24 hours after the users have received them. This means that the users do not need to manually manage their inboxes. Moreover, Google is billing this option as an extension of spam protection that moves suspected messages out of view into the appropriate folder. Inside the “OTPs” category the user can also choose to not enable this feature by clicking on the “No thanks” option.
