In a bid to broaden the range of joint investments to make it easier for clients to consume IBM Software on AWS, today, the International Business Machines, IBM has officially announced that it has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Amazon Web Services to provide IBM software as-a-Service on AWS.

According to the global software and cloud-based services provider, the partnership will give clients rapid and easy access to IBM Software, which includes automation, data and AI, security, and sustainability capabilities. IBM Software is built on Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) and operates cloud-native on AWS.

The duo companies are also committing to a wide range of joint investments to make it easier for clients to use IBM Software on AWS, such as integrated go-to-market activities across sales and marketing, channel incentives, developer enablement and training, and solution development for key verticals and industries like Oil and Gas, Travel and Transportation, and others.

Given the latest development, organizations will be able to run a wide range of IBM Software catalog products on AWS as cloud-native services, allowing them to quickly get up and running and generate business value. IBM API Connect, IBM Db2, IBM Observability by Instana APM, IBM Maximo Application Suite, IBM Security ReaQta, IBM Security Trusteer, IBM Security Verify, and IBM Watson Orchestrate are among the products available now, with more to come later this year.

As such, clients will be able to purchase IBM SaaS products through the AWS Marketplace, then set up and integrate with AWS services, allowing them to get up and running with just a few clicks and without having to build, update, or manage any infrastructure.

IBM SaaS solutions on AWS will deliver a native AWS experience with deep integration of AWS services out of the box and support for API, CloudFormation, and Terraform templates to enable automation of end-to-end workflows.

In addition, IBM Consulting and IBM Security Services can also help customers create and deploy contemporary, secure, and intelligent workflows with IBM Software on AWS, thanks to their over 10,000 AWS certifications and 13 AWS competencies.

These SaaS applications join IBM’s vast portfolio of 30+ Software products now available for manual deployment in AWS Marketplace, as well as the opportunity to Bring Your Own License (BYOL) for users who already have their own license and want to deploy the software faster. This allows businesses a broad range of alternatives for developing and running software that best matches their specific requirements.

Speaking on the partnership the Senior Vice President of IBM Software, Tom Rosamilia said with hybrid cloud becoming a reality for clients, IBM is committed to delivering them with flexible and cloud-native software.

“As hybrid cloud continues to become the reality for our clients, IBM is ready and willing to meet them with a flexible and cloud-native software portfolio wherever they are in the cloud or in data centers.”

He, however, maintained: “By deepening our collaboration with AWS, we’re taking another major step in giving organizations the ability to choose the hybrid cloud model that works best for their own needs and workloads, freeing them up to instead focus on solving their most pressing business challenges.”

On the other hand, Matt Garman, the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at AWS said the partnership will stimulate modern cloud services provided to clients.

In his words: “Our collaboration with IBM allows joint customers to stimulate their modernization to the cloud and consume IBM services in a cloud-native manner on AWS.”
