Google Chrome updates its version to 89 on March 12, and one of the most talked-about features included in the new update is the ability to save a webpage for later reading.
A similar feature had been added in the last quarter of 2021, but this is a bit different from the last feature. The new ‘read later’ feature is offered as a complement to the ‘Bookmark’ feature. Read later is geared towards making it easier for the users to save a page for reading and discard it at a later stage.
Google Chrome Version 89 might take some time before it gets rolled out to every Android user globally. To access the new feature, a user who has received the update needs to click on the start icon on the address bar and select the “Add to Reading List” option. Selecting this will save the page through the bookmarks bar on Google Chrome. Users can also access it at any given time. Moreover, after saving a page for reading later, Google can automatically categorize pages based on whether the user has read the page or not.
The new update lists a number of new addition and improvement to old features. Among the important ones, besides the ‘read later’ feature, is also the fact that version 89 of Google Chrome helps Chrome start 13% faster than before. The tabs left open will be saved in a special lightweight version that takes very little space.
It will still support scrolling, zooming, and tapping on links. Google has explained that this will help the users to get a more responsive feel while the “Freeze-dried” tab loads in the background. In addition, the new version has also improved memory use while at the same time reduced crashes. The new version is supposed to be 7.5% faster than the previous version while booting up. Google also claims 22% better browser process performance, 8% better rendering, and 3% GPU improvements.
