Audi revealed Audi Q5 Sportback, the Sportback variant of its Q5 model today. The company has added multiple Sportback variants like the E-Tron and Q4 and the new release falls in line with Audi’s competitors also going for Sportback counterparts for their models. The Mercedes GLC and BMW X3 both have already launched their coupe designed equivalents.

The Audi Q5 Sportback is an alternative take on the design of the Q5 model. Thus the features remain the same with a few tweaks in the newer model. Of course, as the model name suggests the Q5 features a coupe design with the roofline sporting an elegant design, which gives the car a much sleeker look.

Let us take a look at the features:

Lights

The headlights come with a fresh lighting signature. However, it is the OLED taillights that grab our attention. It allows the owner to choose four different patterns that can be altered. The entire taillight fixture can glow brightly, acting as a warning sign, if a car gets too close to the rear end and is likely to hit the car.

Hardware

In the hardware section, the Sportback differs from the Q5 majorly in one aspect: Audi doesn’t offer the Sportback variant with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. But it does offer the normal four-cylinder engines and the S version six-cylinder engines for the Sportback.

Also, the Sportback is provided with a more robust 3 liter turbocharged V6 which makes 349 horsepower(260 Kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet( 500 Newton-meters).

Suspension

Audi offers some interesting suspension features. The Q5 Sportback offers a standard steel setup and multiple adjustable suspension options. The most prominent adjustable feature is the new air suspension, which can raise and lower the car up to 2.4 inches. This air suspension can raise the ride height by up to 1.8 inches on rough road surfaces.

Inside the Cabin

The Q5 Sportback cabin comes with Audi’s MIB 3 software. The cabin houses a 10.1 inch touchscreen which pops up from the dashboard, and is paired with Audi’s optional Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster. A Wireless Apple Carplay is also provided as a standard.

To add gloss to the cabin there is an optional wood trim and ambient lighting which grant the cabin an elite feel. Owing to the coupe design of the Q5 Sportback there is a chance of reduction in the headroom space in the rear seat. But by how much remains to be seen.

Availability & Pricing

Audi’s Q5 Sportback will be available in 2021. The company hasn’t disclosed the pricing details yet, but it is being speculated that the new model will start from $43,300.
