A slow-running computer can be the worst nightmare, especially if you work from home and have a tight deadline for your task. Even the simplest task of opening a browser or sending an email can be also troublesome at times. You can try many things at home to speed up your computer. Today we are going to discuss your computer speed issues and how you can improve them.

Before jumping on the solution let’s first understand why your system gets slow. All the operations of the computer are performed by an operating system. Things that slow down your computer are disk drive space issues, Running out of RAM, too many running background programs, Malware, and even the fragmented hard drive.

Here are a few hacks which you can try to speed up your computer. Apart from this, you can also check with any of the service providers for laptop repairs in Australia.

Restarting the computer

Restarting your computer would be the first step you can consider taking when your computer slows down. When your operating system allocates space for the programs on RAM, space gets filled up. Due to which the system could slow down since the operating system uses swap files then. This swap file is a particular file on your disk drive that works as an alternative storage space for your programs when the space on RAM gets filled. These drives work slower than the RAM and hence it slows down your computer.

Disable Background Programs

Disabling background programs would also help in speeding up your system. Generally, your computer gets slow if there are too many programs running at the same time. This ends up consuming processing power and affects the computer’s performance. Sometimes you will see some programs still running even after you attempt to close them.

To check those hidden running programs all you have to do is to open the task manager. You can do it easily by typing CTRL + ALT + DEL. Once you open the task manager you will see the number of programs running on your system along with their memory usage data. Here you need to sort the programs with Disk headers, Memory, and CPU. Here you will get to know the programs which are consuming maximum memory. You can click on the particular program and select the end task.

Run virus and Malware check

There are chances for your PC to get slow if there is an attack of malware or virus. In that case, the solution is very simple. All you have to do is to use updated anti-virus software. After you install it just run it on your system to scan the viruses.

Update your system

Your system frequently asks for an update if there are any software or operating systems changes. These changes are subject to the improvement of the system. Hence it is important to update your computer whenever there is an intimation for the same. Failing to do so can slow down your computer.

The system update process is very simple. You just need to click on the start menu and select the settings icon. Here you will get the tab indicating Update and Security. Once you click on it, it will take you to the windows update process.

The hard drive cleans up

Cleaning up your hard drive is one of the most important steps to speed up your computer. When the hard drive is full it automatically slows down the computer as the operating system does not find any sufficient space to work. To avoid these, you need to make sure that a disk space of at least 500MB should be available. You can check the available space in explorer. Windows(C) would be your main drive.

While cleaning up your drive, empty the recycle bin and remove the unwanted programs. After this check the download folder and clean it up. After the deletion of programs, it is time to delete the temporary files. The process is very simple to follow. Press the Window key + Run and type %temp%. Press enters and you will see the list of temporary files in front of you. You can delete those files.

The last step in clean up would be to clear the cache and cookies of your browser. The cache files and cookie data end up using a large amount of space on the drive.

I hope this advice will help you resolve your computer’s slow speed issue.
