To all Android 5+ users, the earthquake alert system will be made available this coming week. The free service by Google would require Android users to have enabled the location on their Android devices to get notified earlier than the tremor comes about in their respective areas.

Users who are willing to receive the warnings before an earthquake are supposed to make sure proper internet connectivity is there, either through Wi-Fi or cellular data and the device location is also turned on so that Google can easily fetch the information for your area.

Hence, the earthquake alert system would notify you straight through your Android device about the tremor several minutes before the shock actually takes place. However, you can turn off your location or the alert updates from Google on your Android device as per your will. The earthquake alert system has already been put into action in many countries. Now Google teams up with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) And National Seismology Centre (NSC) to bring forth the development in the territories of India.

“We hope to supplement the government’s efforts on earthquake alerts and provide people with the advance notice they need to stay safe. In India, we have been working closely with the NDMA to provide users with helpful safety information about natural disasters such as floods and cyclones on Google Search and Maps. We’re proud to further our association with the NDMA, along with the NSC, to bring the Android Earthquake Alerts system to India,” – Micah Berman, the Product Manager, of Android Safety at Google in a blog post.

In conclusion, this new alert system by Google and team NDMA as well as NSC is one that would highly contribute to the safety of Indians as the damages earthquakes have caused to the nation are not unknown to the people. Through this earthquake alert system, people will be enabled to get notified about tremors and act accordingly which would cost no arm or leg from the Android 5+ users as this service is absolutely free of cost and would only need you to keep your location and permissions on.

So what are your views on this one? Do you think this step taken collectively by Google, NDMA, and NSC would work well for the Indians? Share your thoughts through feedback with us.
