In a bid to expand its software as a service, SaaS, the Finnish telecommunications company Nokia has today announced a cross-portfolio lineup of fixed network solutions for the service. According to the firm, the new fixed networks portfolio line-up covers broadband controllers, WiFi controllers, and operational tools.

Delivering Flexible And Easy Path Services Through Nokia SaaS Model

With fixed network solutions, Nokia tends to provide more flexibility for operators and an easier path to delivering new services to their customers. At the same time, operators will benefit from up to 25% lower cost of ownership and savings in IT skills and lifecycle management.

Nokia’s market-leading Fixed Networks applications, which are already available on bare metal servers and in the cloud, may now be deployed by operators using a SaaS delivery model. The portfolio includes the WiFi Cloud Controller and Altiplano Access Controller. The line-up also includes operational tools for network design and administration, predictive care, and automatic end-user fiber modem activation.

Growing Operators Through Expensive, Intricate, On-premise Equipment

Sandy Motley, President, Fixed Networks at Nokia, said in a highly competitive world, operation efficiency is essential to both high-quality customer service and business profitability. Therefore, Nokia’s SaaS enables operators to get going rapidly

“SaaS gets operators started quickly. No special IT set-up means reduced upfront deployment costs, and in a highly competitive world, operation efficiency is key to both high-quality customer service and business profitability.”

Operators can simply scale up or down depending on their business’s success after starting with a minor investment and subscription plan. They are freed up to concentrate on their primary task – managing the fixed access network – by eliminating tasks and hazards associated with cloud infrastructure.

Operators can customize the subscription package by selecting the Service Level Agreements and levels of support to match their operational demands, Sandy added. They can set up several Nokia SaaS instances for usage in development, pilot projects, lab testing, and production. Nokia’s all-inclusive SaaS solution, which includes setup, monitoring, maintenance, and updates, is utilized by Metronet and LUS Fiber.

Meanwhile, Julie Kunstler, Chief Analyst at Omdia, said operators greatly benefit from having the option to forego executing software on expensive, intricate, on-premise equipment.

“Being able to opt-out of running software on costly, complex, on-premise infrastructure is a big advantage for operators. Furthermore, a SaaS model means more flexibility and an easier path to delivering new services.”
