After long expectations, Google has finally confirmed the official launch date of its flagship smartphone, the Google Pixel 8 series, coming alongside the Pixel Watch 2. Google teased the launch of the smartphones, which include the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, via X (formerly Twitter).

According to the brand, the Google Pixel 8 series, along with the Pixel Watch 2, will be coming to India on October 4th and will be available for pre-order starting on October 5th.

The forthcoming launch of the Pixel 8 series will be the second mainline Pixel lineup in India since 2018, after the Pixel 7 series last year. Now, let’s look at what to expect from the devices.

Pixel 8 Series: Expected Full Specs

The Pixel 8 series is expected to come with a 6.70-inch touchscreen display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels (FHD+). A 4950 mAh battery supporting wireless charging as well as proprietary fast charging is also expected.

Under the hood, the smartphones are expected to be powered by an octa-core Google Tensor processor that comes with 12GB of RAM and packs 128GB of inbuilt storage. Both Pixel 8 series are tipped to run on Android 14 and feature an IP68 rating for dust and water protection with a glass body.

For the optical, the Google Pixel 8 is said to include two back cameras, one with a 50-megapixel primary camera and the other with a 12-megapixel sensor. The arrangement for the back camera has autofocus. As per the report, it would include a single front camera arrangement with an 11-megapixel primary sensor for selfies.

Finally, the smartphones are expected to support several connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, GPS, and USB Type-C. There are said to be a number of sensors on the phone, including an in-display fingerprint sensor, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a compass/magnetometer, and a gyroscope.

Google Pixel Watch 2

Prior to this announcement, the Pixel Watch 2 had been leaked to launch alongside the Pixel 8 series. In one of the Google Play Console listings, the smartwatch is said to feature a round screen of 384 x 384 px resolution, a crown-element dial on the side, and a 1.2-inch diagonal with the OLED variety like its predecessor.

As anticipated, Google is said to be replacing Exynos with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 CPU (SW5100) and 2GB RAM instead of Exynos and booting Android 13 with Wear OS 4 on top. Additional watch face options and Ultra-wideband (UWB) connectivity are anticipated to be included with the new device.

Pricing and Availability

A number of stories have made suggestions about how much the new Google flagship series would cost, with the Pixel 8 speculated to cost EUR 874.25 (about Rs. 78,400) for the 128GB storage model and EUR 949.30 (approximately Rs. 85,200) for the 256GB storage model. The device is said to be available in hazel, mint, obsidian, and rose color variants for the vanilla model.

On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro is likely to cost EUR 1,235.72 (about Rs. 1,10,900) for the 128GB storage model and EUR 1,309.95 (approximately Rs. 1,17,500) for the 256GB storage model. According to reports, the 512GB storage option will cost EUR 1,461.24 (around Rs. 1,31,100). It is rumored to come in porcelain, bay, mint, mint, and obsidian colors.

As confirmed by Google in a teaser, the new flagship smartphones and the Watch 2 will be available for pre-orders starting October 4th on Flipkart, the online retail partner for all Pixel launches. Thus, stay connected with TechGenyz for more updates.
