Ensuring safety is an indispensable service for any company to its customers. And so on Thursday Uber India launched its new Uber Safety Toolkit to ensure safety to its customers. The new feature adds security and safety to the riders.

The Uber Safety Toolkit was first rolled out in America in May. Uber says that the feature has been added after having several conversations with riders in different parts of the world.

The primary concern most riders had was accessibility to the different safety features. – Sachin Kansal, Director, Product Management, Uber

The app which is similar to the U.S. has been customized according to the Indian requirement. The main aim of Uber is to build awareness along with safety and security for its riders.

Uber Safety ToolkitThe key features of the app are:

  • Safety Centre: It will make easier for the customers to find information and safety tips that are built in partnership with law enforcement.
  • Reliant Contacts: It allows riders to designate up to five loved ones with whom they can be regularly prompted to share their trip. Users can also change their setting to share all their trips or to share their night-time trips only.
  • Emergency Button: The already pre-existing button is now placed under the shield button that will offer a quicker swipe feature for riders during an unwanted emergency.

The new changes built on the app will bring more safety benefits such as helping people, avoid drunk driving, track every trip with GPS, interlink with the safety apps of local police authorities, and 24/7 feedback and response from Uber’s safety team.

Uber is also anxious to take feedback and responses to the account of the new feature. In India, it has partnered with Delhi and Kolkata police for safety initiative and to prevent the crime that involves passengers. Uber is hopeful that the new feature will be able to extend its commitment to the millions of riders across India.
