In a thrilling turn of events for the global Volkswagen GTI community, the iconic GTI Meeting, an event synonymous with sportiness, emotions, and dynamics, is set to return to its roots in Wolfsburg. The automobile giant announced the return of the iconic GTI Meeting today, stating it is set to take place in Wolfsburg from July 26 to 28, 2024.
Since 1982, Lake Wörthersee in Austria has been the site of the largest GTI gathering, which has grown to be a staple of the brand’s yearly events. However, given the return, Wolfsburg will take up the mantle of “Coming Home: Reloaded” as the new location for the GTI fan base starting in the summer.
But the Maria Wörth local municipality made a shocking announcement in early 2023, saying it would no longer host the yearly GTI meeting. In response to this alteration, Volkswagen made the audacious choice to move the GTI Meeting back to its original location in Wolfsburg. This event is not the first for Volkswagen, which hosted official GTI meets close to the Volkswagen factory in 2017 and 2018 to add to the illustrious past of this distinguished occasion.

Volkswagen’s Legendary GTI Meeting Returns Home
Announcing the return, Imelda Labbé, a member of the Board of Management for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, explained that the auto brand believes it’s crucial to give the GTI community a new home here in Wolfsburg at the center of our brand.
“The GTI isn’t the only icon; the GTI Meeting has also acquired cult status over the decades. We feel it’s important to give the GTI community a new home at the heart of our brand here in Wolfsburg! Volkswagen is giving fans plenty of time to make their plans by announcing the date early: The big GTI party will be held on the last weekend in July 2024, said Imelda Labbé.”
The VfL Wolfsburg stadium will serve as the focal point of the 2024 GTI Meeting and offer a distinctive setting for the weekend’s events. With the event shifting from Lake Wörthersee to the Mittellandkanal venue, the relocation to Wolfsburg represents a substantial change.
