Neural Network will Improve the Cameras for Mobile Phones in 2018

Neural Networks in Smartphone Cameras
The cameras of our smartphones have become one of the most important components. The ability to capture an image at any time without the need to carry a camera on top of it has made mobile cameras vital for quality photographs. And it seems that the AI will help, and much, to improve the quality of the photos we make with our phones. So far we have at our disposal a multitude of filters and tools that allow us to make more attractive captures on the one hand and, on the other hand, to improve the photographs we have taken with our phone's camera. But the arrival of processors for mobile phones with neural networks of artificial intelligence will take care that the photos that we make with our smartphone look like a professional photograph.

The AI will make the mobile cameras take a new leap in quality

Today we have really powerful mobile cameras. A clear example we have it in the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or in the recently introduced Huawei Mate 10. The new phablet of the Asian manufacturer has an artificial intelligence called NPU that will be responsible for better optimizing the phone's resources. And in a future of its own, it will also make the photographs taken with the camera of a smartphone have nothing to envy to that achieved with a Reflex or DSLR camera of high quality. Proof of this has been the work carried out by the team of Computer Vision Laboratory ETH Zurich. And is that this team has developed a neural network that will improve any photo taken with the camera of a phone so that the result is very similar to that obtained by a DSLR camera. For this, the software is responsible for analyzing the photograph taken to determine the type of scene that has been captured. Once this is done, it will search professional images of similar scenes and make a series of corrections to our photography so that it improves the quality of the captured image. Mobile Camera Mind you, we are not talking about a project but it is already a reality. Although today the team of ETH Zurich has not yet released an application of its own, time to time, you can go to its official website, and upload a photo so that the AI created by this group improves the photography that we have gone up. As you may have seen by looking at the images that accompany this article, the result achieved with its post-processing software is impressive. If you had any doubts about the usefulness of AI in a smartphone, seeing how mobile cameras will improve thanks to this technology it is clear that neural networks will not be a simple fad in the telephony sector.
