On Thursday, August 9th, 2018, the Galaxy Note 9 will be presented. There has been speculation about the release date of Samsung’s next flagship device, but now the Korean manufacturer has confirmed the date itself.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with renewed S Pen

Samsung Newsroom states that the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on August 9 at 5:00 PM Dutch time. The press event will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Unpacked event will follow via a live stream. A teaser video was also shown at the announcement.

In the teaser video, extensive attention is paid to the S Pen. This is shown in a new yellow/golden color and has a renewed elongated button. The video seems to say that the S Pen will bring new functionality.

The Galaxy Note is the only smartphone series from Samsung equipped with this stylus pen. It is therefore very clear about the new Galaxy Note 9.

At the beginning of this year, we reported on two of Samsung’s patents relating to the S Pen operation and a new operating method. Whether this functionality can be found in the Note 9 remains to be seen, but it is certain that the device will be presented on August 9th.

Earlier this month, information appeared online about two new colors for the Galaxy Note 9, but this special golden color was not included. Nevertheless, the official Samsung video seems to want to say that there is indeed a yellow/gold Note smartphone.

Specifications of the Samsung Note 9

The device now has all the required certificates and thanks to a recent benchmark test, virtually all the specs have become known.

The Galaxy Note 9 runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. The smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor, just like the Galaxy S9 series. Probably the device gets more memory, namely 6 GB RAM. In addition, there is 128GB of storage memory available.

The advanced mobile phone will be equipped with a 6.3″ OLED display with a 2960 × 1440 pixel resolution. The device would be slightly thicker than its predecessor.

It is expected that the Note 9 will have a similar camera as the Galaxy S9+. Perhaps some additional functions will be added, such as; HDR video or 960fps slow-motion videos in Full HD resolution, instead of HD resolution.

The AR-Emoji will also be introduced on a Note smartphone for the first time. Samsung has added these playful emoticons to all its 2018 smartphone models.

Bixby will also receive an upgrade. The Galaxy Note 9 is expected to be the first Samsung phone to feature Bixby 2.0. Exact details about this update are still unknown. However, Samsung has already announced that Bixby will be available in Dutch later this year.

Furthermore, it seems plausible that Samsung also shows certain progress in the field of audio. More and more flagship devices offer 3D sound and other innovative audio functions. The speaker of the Galaxy Note 8 is not bad, but also not impressive. We are therefore curious if Samsung will change this. In any case, the 3.5 mm connection seems to be maintained.

Unfortunately, various renders have shown that the fingerprint scanner will still not be processed in the display. For this, we will have to wait until the Galaxy S10 arrives in early 2019.

Then we have the battery. A lot has already been done about this. According to the latest information, the Note 9 will have an improved battery capacity of 4,000 mAh. A considerable difference with the Note 8, which has 3,300 mAh.

Price and availability

The device will be presented on August 9, 2018. It is expected that the Samsung Note 9 will go on sale at the end of August. Little is known about the price. Last year, the Note 8 was put on the market for € 999. You can probably buy the Galaxy Note 9 for a slightly higher amount. Finally, the high-end smartphones become a bit more expensive every year.
