Lg G8 May Have the ‘sound on Display’ Feature

Must Read

LG will be launching their first flagship smartphone this year, the LG G8. OnLeaks has leaked that the new LG G8 will be released in the market with a unique feature. According to the news leaked by OnLeaks, the LG G8 will supposedly have a “Sound on Display” feature. LG has long been familiar with this feature as they have launched their OLED TV with this “Sound on Display” feature.

What is remarkable about this feature is that the TV does not have a traditional speaker embedded somewhere alongside its screen. Rather, the sound is produced by the vibrations on the screen caused by an ‘exciter’. This ‘exciter’ is positioned behind the screen. Contrary to popular belief, these screen vibrations do not harm the display or the TV itself. LG has taken this feature which was previously only applied on OLED TVs, and made it available on smartphones.

The ‘Sound on Display’ feature produces clear sound without hindrance. The leaker of OnLeaks, Steve H. McFly, has taken to Twitter to announce the news. His tweet read, “According to my sources, #LGG8 will feature Sound on Display (SoD) technology…” Even though this news has created some sort of hype, the feature itself is not brand new to the world. Last year, Samsung made an announcement at a display event that they were looking into producing smartphones with this feature, and it was rumoured that in 2019 they would be launching the promised smartphone.

Adding this feature to a smartphone obviously has a positive angle. Embedding the speaker within the screen will make a smartphone’s top bezel quite useless; hence, the screen can be bigger. LG has not announced any news or released any photo of their upcoming LG G8. So whether the phone will have an edge-to-edge display is only a matter of speculation currently.
