The world’s leading memory technology provider, Samsung Electronics announced its industry’s first mass production of one-terabyte (TB) embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS) 2.1, to make use of it in the next-generation smartphone operation.

Samsung said that the 1TB eUFS has excellent speed, allowing users to transfer large amounts of multimedia content in a brief time. The new eUFS speeds up to 1,000MB/s per second, which is twice the continuous read speed of mainstream 2.5-inch SATA Solid State Drives (SSDs). Random reads up to 58,000 IOPS and random writes up to 50,000 IOPS.

The 1TB eUFS is anticipated to play a key role in bringing more notebook-like user experiences to next-generation mobile devices, more importantly, Samsung is committed to ensuring the most reliable supply chain and sufficient production to support the upcoming launched the flagship smartphone to accelerate the growth of the global mobile market – Cheol Choi, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics

According to the South Korean tech giant, the new 1TB eUFS 2.1 will allow smartphone users to enjoy higher storage capacity levels comparable to that of a premium notebook without the need for additional memory cards. The company also adds that it will expand production of eUFS with 512GB at its Pyeongtaek plant in South Korea during the first half of 2019 to meet strong demand.

The high random speed will allow for fast, continuous shooting at 960 frames per second to take advantage of multi-camera capabilities on smartphones. Samsung plans to expand its fifth-generation 512Gb V-NAND production at its Pyeongtaek plant in South Korea in the first half of 2019 to fully meet the global mobile device manufacturer’s demand for 1TB eUFS.
