A year ago the Asus ROG Phone was introduced, a real gaming smartphone from Asus and the Republic of Gamers (ROG). The Android smartphone was equipped with a boosted processor, a cooling system and AirTriggers. Last week the Taiwanese manufacturer announced the successor. The Asus ROG Phone 2 gaming smartphone gets a new screen, a more powerful chipset, and a higher capacity battery.

High-end gaming smartphone from ROG

Asus provides its second-generation ROG Phone with a 6.6-inch OLED display with a Full HD + resolution and a 19.5: 9 screen ratio. A narrow screen border is visible at the top and bottom, the device has no notch. The screen has a refresh rate of 120Hz. This number says something about how often the screen is refreshed, the higher the number of Hertz, the more accurately you can detect movements.

The Asus gaming phone is also equipped with an extra high touch sampling rate of no less than 240Hz. This number says something about how quickly a touch can be detected. With the ROG Phone 2, you can therefore quickly respond to game changes and at the same time, the device also detects very quickly what your reaction is. This way minimal delays are guaranteed, which of course benefits the gaming experience, even when you play graphically heavy games.

The Asus ROG Phone 2 gaming smartphone is powered by the recently introduced Snapdragon 855+ processor. This powerhouse comes standard with no less than 12GB of memory. In addition, consumers who purchase the ROG Phone 2 can choose from 128GB or 512GB storage memory. The device offers support for UFS 3.0, allowing data to be transferred at high speed.

Asus has also built a GameCool II cooling system with a newly designed 3D vapor chamber, all this to keep the device as cool as possible during intensive game sessions. The Asus smartphone runs on the Android 9.0 operating system. Users can choose which user interface they prefer; stock Android or the ROG UI.

The fingerprint scanner is processed under the screen. In addition, a 24-megapixel selfie camera is built-in. The rear has a double camera. The main sensor offers 48-megapixel resolution and an f / 1.8 lens and the second camera has 13 megapixels and a 125˚ ultra-wide-angle lens.

Furthermore, this gaming smartphone is equipped with dual front-facing speakers with DTS: X Ultra DSP. The AirTrigger II ultrasonic sensors have also been improved and the phone has Dual Surrounding Vibration technology.

In addition to a beautiful screen and powerful hardware, this mobile game device also has a monstrous battery with a capacity of no less than 6,000 mAh. A 30 Watt fast charger is included so that you can also charge the phone at high speed.

Optional accessories Asus ROG Phone 2 gaming smartphone

Asus has also announced a range of optional accessories that make the gaming experience even more intense. Consider, for example, the Kunai GamePad, which incidentally shows a remarkable number of similarities with the Joy-Con controllers of the Nintendo Switch.

Asus also offers the possibility to create a second screen via the TwinView Dock II. This has been given a new design, is lighter and better balanced and has a new turbo-fan cooling system and a high capacity 5,000 mAh battery. The extra screen is ideal for split-screen live-streaming or for maintaining a group chat.

It is as yet unclear whether the new ROG Phone 2 is also coming to the Netherlands. Last month the company lost an important lawsuit against Philips, after which it was forced to cease its smartphone sales in the Netherlands with immediate effect. The recently introduced Asus Zenfone 6 is therefore not available here. It is possible that the judgment on appeal offers more prospects for Asus.
