Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi sees a new vision for its company as it announces the merge of ride-hailing and food delivery apps with other safety features updates.

At a media event in San Francisco, Uber CEO announces the updated version of its flagship app. The update will add a whole new bunch of features, like a unique four-digit PIN to verify the ride and avoid mix-ups enhanced security with in-app emergency calls, alternate transit modes like cycles, motorbikes, public transportation, etc.

With the new version of the app, Uber is going to look different right out of the gate. In the home screen as soon as you open the app you’ll see two options – get a ride and order food. Uber is merging its food delivery service Uber Eats into its main ride-hailing app.

As part of its security plans to make rides safer for users, the company rolled out an enhanced real-time ID check system that requires drivers to provide their identity by performing a random series of basic body movements, like blinking, smiling and/or turning their head.

Last year, Uber added the emergency button to dial 911 from the app. Now, it will also let you text 911 in cities and countries that support this technology. Uber will automatically include the make, model, license plate number, and location of the vehicle in the text.

Besides, Uber has also unveiled an Eats Pass, which will give discounts for customers who frequently make food deliveries something similar to Ride Pass which offers discounts to frequent ride-hailing customers. The updated app is already being tested “in hundreds of U.S. and international cities,” and is expected to be available across the globe in the coming weeks.
