Apple introduced a new service that will make it easier for iOS users to transfer stored photos and videos from iCloud to Google Photos. This sounds like amazing news since now the users would get more storage options to store their photos and videos across two platforms.

As per the announcement made on Apple’s behalf, people can go to Apple’s privacy website and sign in to see the “Transfer a copy of your data” option. Selecting this option and duly going through and completing all the steps, Apple will transfer the user to their iCloud photos and videos over to Google Photos.

Moreover, it should be noted that transferring photos and videos from iCloud Photos will not remove those content from Apple’s service; in other words, the transferred content to the Google Photos will act as backup content. The user needs to turn on the two-factor authentication for their Apple IDs to enable the transfer. On Google’s front, the user needs to possess a Google Photos account that will have enough storage to complete the transfer.

However, there is one downside to it. Smart Albums, Live Photos, photo stream content, some metadata, and some RAW photos are not able to be transferred, but formats including .jpg, .png, .webp, .gif, some RAW files, .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv are compatible.

The transfer process takes between three to seven days. The most recent edit of a photo will get transferred rather than the original version, and duplicates appear as just one photo. Images are transferred in their albums whenever possible, but videos are transferred separately.

Apple’s transfer service is available to customers in Australia, Canada, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States at this time.
