After years of being in the smartphone business, Xiaomi might finally be very close to launching its first tablet. Although there have been many leaks about the Mi Pad 5 in the past, tipping it to rival the Apple iPad Pro, the company itself might have just confirmed the rumors.

Xiaomi, in recent times, has been sharing teaser images of the Mi Pad 5 via the Chinese social media site Weibo.

The tablet, for instance, is expected to come with a kind of keyboard case that clips onto the tablet. This keyboard case is expected to work exactly like other companies in that it can double as a keyboard stand and as a case.

Also, the keyboard shows the Latin alphabet suggesting that the slate will not only be launching in China and may come by August 10th.

Mi Pad 5 also comes with a big-looking stylus that looks to have a hard nib, making for accurate pressing down on the slate’s screen and sensitivity during sketching. If Xiaomi takes any cue from Samsung’s S Pen and Huawei Mate’s M Pen, then this stylus would most likely be called the X Pen (fingers crossed).

Features and Specifications:

Like many of the other leaked specs and details we’ve heard, these new features seem ripped out of Apple’s playbook.

While we wait and hope that Xiaomi confirms a few more features of the Mi Pad 5 before its official unveiling on August 10, rumors have it that the Chinese company will launch three tablets under the Mi Pad 5 series – Mi Pad 5, Mi Pad 5 Lite, and Mi Pad 5 Pro.

All three slates are rumored to pack 10.9-inches IPS LCDs with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. However, the vanilla and Pro versions will be powered by the Snapdragon 870, whereas the Lite model will have a Snapdragon 860 SoC at the helm

Analysis: a bite of the poisoned apple

Apple as we already know, is the force to reckon with when we are talking about the tablets market. This isn’t exactly news anymore and is exactly why most companies position their products to imitate Apple’s iPads.

Based on past replications made by notable companies as seen in Samsung’s Galaxy Tab line, Huawei’s MatePad products, and even Lenovo’s various devices replicate, it’s almost safe to say that to have any success in the tablet market at all, one must rival an iPad. However, this imitation might not always end as a success story, it could also be the beginning of an end. How do I mean?

Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 5 ever since the leaks on its specs and features appeared, has suddenly found itself upon the same destiny, with many already tagging it as an iPad Pro rival. While these comparisons can in no doubts work magic on the sales of a product, especially when such a product is relatively cheaper or more powerful in terms of usefulness or design, the comparison can also come back to bite the product in the ass if it fails to live up to the already high standard set by Apple – the humongous tech giant.

So for all the teasers and inviting adverts that Xiaomi is putting out, it is very important that they be ready to put out a tablet that really does rival an iPad Pro either in design, longevity, or usefulness else it is forgotten in the depths of history in favor of the next newest iPad. It has happened before, and will surely happen again.
