Apple Bags New Patent Right For Future SmartWatch and Fitness Bands To Integrate ECG Sensor

In a bid to expand its tech industry, the American tech giant, Apple is pleased to announce today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has officially granted its a new patent right relating to Future Smart Apple Watch and Fitness Bands.

The new patent relates to future Apple Watch bands taking on sensors and circuitry so that the body of the Apple Watch could be made much thinner over time. Currently, Apple’s ECG is in the body of the watch. However, with this patent, Apple is expected to integrate an ECG sensor into its band or smart band in the future.

As reported by Patentlyapple, future Apple Watch bands would support light-emitting diodes or tiny displays, that is a flexible printed circuit may be provided with connector contacts that allow the flexible printed circuit to couple to mating contacts in a connector on a watch unit or other electrical device structure.

The images also show the cross-sectional side view of an illustrative band having an array of cavities with respective components such as light-emitting diode devices. Likewise, the top view of an illustrative band and main unit in an electronic device shows how a buckle may be coupled to a band.

Therefore, future Apple Watch bands may contain a variety of sensors, such as ambient light sensors, visible light sensors, color-sensitive light sensors, ultraviolet light sensors, and others, that collect environmental measurements and/or human input.

Likewise, optical proximity sensors, capacitive proximity sensors, temperature sensors, force sensors, for measuring biometric information, gas pressure sensors, heart rate sensors, blood oxygen level sensors, image sensors, carbon dioxide sensors, and electrocardiogram sensors are all expected in Apple’s future smartwatch and fitness bands.
