Given the recent release of the notable iPhone 15 series last week, smartphone enthusiasts have been comparing the device to other smartphones on the market, particularly the popular Oneplus Ace 2 Pro, which was also recently released. The attention is primarily on the top-ranking series, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Apple’s latest chipset, the A17 Pro, on the device.

The line of argument began among top smartphone enthusiasts when the Antutu benchmark scores showed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor on the Oneplus Ace 2 Pro outshines Apple’s A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to the benchmark scores, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max scored 1641883 with the A17 Pro and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Oneplus Ace 2 Pro scored 1733703 on the Antutu listing.

Meanwhile, the argument might have been put at rest with the processor only, but other performances drew attention. As we know, benchmark scores are crucial for evaluating a smartphone’s capabilities in the ever-changing world of smartphones. Antutu stands out among these benchmarks as one of the most well-liked, providing users with a numerical score to evaluate a device’s performance.

In the CPU, GPU, MEM, and UX scores Oneplus Ace 2 Pro equally surpasses iPhone 15 Pro Max with 456555, 613916, 363631, and 299601 while it has 392643, 597734, 306164, and 34534 respectively. To put an end to the discord, Antutu resolved the comparison long ago. Since 2019, the software benchmarking has contended that iOS and Android Antutu scores are not comparable and any comparison is unfair.

Why iOS and Android Antutu Scores Are Not Comparable

Justifying why iOS and Android Antutu scores are not comparable, Antutu Benchmark enunciates since there are obvious differences in the kernel and the development language used by the iOS system and the Android system, the iOS version and the Android version of Antutu Benchmark are two different software and the test methods for the two versions are significantly different.

To further affirm its position, Antutu put in that while executing the GPU test, the Antutu iOS and Antutu Android versions use different APIs. While the Android version uses OpenGL ES and the Vulkan API, the iOS version makes use of Apple’s Metal API. Despite the fact that the test cases utilized in the two versions are the same, the rendering techniques and hardware stress requirements are different.

Overall, the scoring systems used by Antutu Benchmark’s iOS and Android versions are very different, making it impossible to directly compare the test results between the two. Simply expressed, the test results of the Antutu benchmark do not permit cross-version or cross-platform comparison and only support comparisons inside the same system based on the same major version.
