A US Newsweek website report indicates Russia’s first attempt of launching a humanoid robot into space for the first time in the Roscosmos history. Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, commonly known as Roscosmos revealed its plan to land on the Moon with robots back in 2016. It recently shared its future plans and the first look of its humanoid robot through a video.

The Skybot F- 850 will take charge of the Alliance MS-14 spacecraft and will commence its journey to the International Space Station on August 22, 2019, and will return to Earth on Sept. 7, 2019.

The Director-General of Russian Federal Space Agency Dmitry Rogozin shared a video of the robot’s shooting in 2017 that caused a ruckus but later Dmitry clarified saying that they are creating a robot that could do wonder in all fields.

…are not creating the ‘terminator’, but creating artificial intelligence with great practical significance in all fields – Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of Russian Federal Space Agency.

Recently the agency has shared a video of the robonaut (nicknamed Fedor), in which Fedor is seen driving a car, walking, pumping iron and using power tools. Fedor (Final Experimental Demonstration Research) is a 6 ft tall anthropomorphous machine that can do wonders after carefully observing and mimicking human activities, e.g. lift up to 20 kg of cargo, can crawl, take and leave a driver’s seat, use power tools and even get up after falling down. A Daily Mail report suggests that the robonaut is designed to help in settling down human bases on the Moon and the other planets.

First we will send a humanoid robot to the moon. After we have studied all the risks and learned to respond, we will send people to the moon – By Dmitry Rogozin on Roscosmos’s future plan with Fedor.

Fedor will take over the commander’s chair of F-850 and take it to the ISS. After staying there for a week and a half, it will join the Russian astronauts to test the space specific anthropomorphic system. Astronaut Alexander Skvortsov will be operating Fedor reportedly.

Fedor is very important to replace some of the most dangerous tasks. This launch will be in co-operation with the anthropomorphic system. In the first phase, the Co- operation is expected to allow us to further enter diastant space – Via Rogozin on Fedor and the mission to the ISS.

The report says that Fedor will be observing and voicing flight parameters during the launch and the fight, and at the stage of entering the orbit, it will have to determine the value of the overload and the onset of zero gravity. Alexander Bloshenko comments on the robonaut’s high humor and communicating skills.

…like any person, skybot f-850 is very sociable and has a sense of humor… as I have mentioned before, it can support any topic of conversation and answer a variety of questions: from welcoming remarks, continuing with a speech about its creators and ending with the philosophy of space – Alexander Bloshenko on Fedor’s skills.

He also said that there are different algorithms to ensure the safety of Fedor in the ISS that will ensure its safe movement on the space station. After it returns home, the results will be analyzed, and Blosenko is hoping that this result will determine both the fate of Fedor and plans of journeys to space.
