Becoming the modern-day search engine for the new generation Z, TikTok collaborates with Wikipedia. The app has been adding the extracted shreds of encyclopedias to its videos for a few months down the line. And now Zachary Lizer, the spokesperson for Tiktok, has finally confirmed to The Verge about the collaboration news amongst the two.

The primary buyers of TikTok, the younger people, can be seen using the app as a search engine. Be it for some new spots to hang around, information about world affairs, stats, or geography, Gen Z relies on TikTok like the older generation has depended on Google to attain all the necessary information. The senior vice-president of Google, Mr. Prabhakar Raghavan, also admitted that the American company is aware of the challenge at hand.

Though Google still holds some 93% of the search market, as explained by the company’s senior vice-president, Raghavan, stated that about 40% of the younger generation doesn’t prefer looking for a location on Google Maps or searching for a place to have lunch. Instead, they go on TikTok or its rival app, Instagram.

The Chinese platform Tiktok is entirely acquainted with the knowledge regarding how much of an opportunity it has unlocked by partnering with Wikipedia to run ahead of Google. Just by adding the pieces of fragmented information drawn from Wikipedia to its videos, both TikTok and Wikipedia could serve the purpose fruitfully.

In another study by Her Campus Media, it was discovered that, in fact, 51% of the newer generation picks up TikTok rather than Google to find answers to their doubts and questions, which is pretty contrary to what Raghavan stated in his statement.

Ostensibly, it is safe to assert that the display pattern of TikTok captivates the newer generation better, and to be stated, 69% of them prefer grabbing the facts through videos and would be more appeased with the results being individually distinctive in accordance with their tastes.
