Lenovo adds to the list two new and interesting terminals of the ThinkStation series, created for professionals looking for computing power and in general systems that are in line with all the latest generation standards. The new models, respectively Lenovo Thinkstation P720 and ThinkStation P920, stand out above all because they use the latest Intel Xeon Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, processors.
Lenovo ThinkStation P720 has become the most compact of the workstations presented. It provides the ability to install two processors. There are 12 slots for DDR4-2666 RAM, three PCIe x16 slots and one PCIe x8, PCIe x4 and PCI each. And directly on the workstation’s motherboard, there are two connectors M.2. These CPUs, based on the Skylake-SP architecture, offer different options to increase performance: among these the high number of Cores (based on the model) stand out, switching to a six-channel RAM controller, ideal for areas where the width is very important of bandwidth.
Lenovo ThinkStation P720 is the smaller of the two workstations, a Dual-Socket system with 12 DDR4-2666 slots, 4 bays for hard drives, three PCIe x16 slots, 1x PCIe x8 + 1x PCIe x4, 1x PCI and two M.2 slots. The small size of the Lenovo ThinkStation P720 allows you to install in it only two dual-slot Nvidia Quadro P6000 or GP100 video cards. And five 1/4 “compartments with frontal access can be used for additional hard drives or solid-state drives, bringing their total number to six.
Lenovo ThinkStation P920, on the other hand, is definitely larger and, always maintaining a Dual-Socket configuration, hosts 18 DDR4 slots with 5 PCIe X16 slots. The other features are more or less similar to the ThinkStation P720. The larger Lenovo Thinkstation P920 workstation already holds 16 DDR4-2666 memory slots, five PCIe x16 and three PCIe x4. As in the first model, it has the ability to install two CPUs and two M.2 connectors on the motherboard. At the same time, users can connect not just two, but three dual-slot Nvidia Quadro P6000 or GP100 video cards to the workstation.
